Lunch In Homes

Today after construction we had the opportunity to have lunch in local homes. The group split up and ate lunch in 5 local homes. This was a great experience to sit at someone's table and get to know them over a meal. (we paid for the food and had local missionaries as translators in each group) The students had a chance to talk with and pray for the people. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity that they will never forget.

The Walls

Today was a great day. We had our second day of construction. For our construction today we started putting the walls together and began work clearing dirt for a patio. Everyone worked very hard today.

Bricks

Tonight we had a chance to go and meet a local brick maker and learn about what it takes to make bricks.

As he explained the process that it takes to make a brick we were reminded of how God makes us for a purpose. He reminded us that many bricks break and crack and never serve their purpose. And how much he would love to see those bricks restored to their original condition much like the offer that Christ gives us.

The students had a chance to share their thoughts in small groups with the local students.

Today was a good day.

Building the foundation

Today we had the chance to meet the family and start building their new home. We will do a post later today on the family and give you information on them.

When we showed up the area was prepped and ready for us to start working. The team mixed concrete, hauled buckets and sifted sand and gravel. The team worked very hard and accomplished more than expected.

Church with the Youth

Tonight we had a chance to do something we have never done before. In the past we have worked alongside some of the youth of Cofradia in our outreaches and construction but tonight we had a chance to build the bridges of relationship with the youth. By mixing the youth in teams we had the opportunity to play games, compete and start to build relationships. Our students did a great job stepping out and talking and hanging out with the local youth.

Today was a good day.

Sunday Church

The first official day in Cofradia was a great day. The morning started out with church where we had the joy of worshiping and the celebrating God with them.

During the message many of the students helped with singing, fun, and a Bible lesson for the children. The students did an amazing job working with the kids and getting out of their comfort zones. Church was great!

1st Day Travel Day

A long day of travel started off with a 2:30am meeting and a 5am departure. After getting the team down to the airport and through security we found ourselves "on the way". The team did great traveling through the airports and the during the ride to Cofradia. Many people took advantage of the plane rides and the bus ride to catch up on the sleep they missed the night before.

After arriving in Cofradia we got settled and had a chance to go walk the town and get acclimated.
